New Wales is a new think tank for Wales.

More than ever we need intensive and purposeful discussions as a nation to map our future.

At the moment, Wales is by far the poorest nation in the United Kingdom. This can only change through our own efforts - history and experience show that progress and positive transformation are rarely delivered by others.

It is inevitable that the constitutional settlement of the existing Union will change. It is only a matter of time until Northern Ireland moves to unite with the Republic of Ireland. Although Scotland seems to have been split in two by the independence debate, the clear suggestion from demographic data is that the pressure to change its status within the Union is going to increase.

The whole of Wales must consider our relationship with and within the current state so that we can choose our own future.

With the report of the constitutional commission for Wales, published in January 2024, as a foundation, Cymru Newydd/New Wales will build on the results and the work done under the stewardship of Dr Rowan Williams and Professor Laura McAllister. The report put forward a number of possible options for Wales in the future and our work will expand on this through research, ideas, lively and open debates.

We utterly reject the long tradition of parking comprehensive reports and letting them collect dust whilst they are quietly ignored.

The future of Wales and the fate of its people are too important.

We would like to invite you to be part of our efforts.

Melin drafod newydd i Gymru yw Cymru Newydd.

Mwy nag erioed mae angen arnom drafodaethau dwys a phwrpasol er mwyn i ni fel cenedl mapio ein dyfodol.

Ar hyn o bryd, Cymru yw’r wlad tlotaf yn y Deyrnas Unedig o bell ffordd. Dim ond trwy ein ymdrechion ni fel cenedl all hyn newid – mae hanes a phrofiad yn dangos na ddaw ymborth na waredigaeth o’r tu allan.

Mae’n anorfod bod trefn cyfansoddiadol y Deyrnas Unedig yn newid. Mater o amser yn unig sydd tan fod Gogledd Iwerddon yn symud i uno gyda Gweriniaeth Iwerddon. Er bod yr Alban yn ymddengys i fod wedi hollti’n ddwy gan y ddadl annibyniaeth, yr awgrym clir o ddata demograffeg yw bod y pwysau dros newid statws y wlad honno o fewn yr Undeb yn mynd i gynyddu.

Rhaid i Gymru gyfan ystyried ein perthynas gyda’r wladwriaeth er mwyn i ni ddewis hynt ein dyfodol drosom ein hunain.

Gydag adroddiad y comisiwn cyfansoddiadol i Gymru, a gyhoeddwyd Mis Ionawr 2024, yn gynsail, bwriad Cymru Newydd/New Wales yw ymhelaethu ar ganlyniadau ac yr y gwaith a wnaethpwyd dan arweiniad Dr Rowan Williams a’r Athro Laura McAllister. Rhagdybiodd yr adroddiad nifer o opsiynau posib i Gymru y dyfodol a’n gwaith ni bydd adeiladu ar hyn trwy ymchwil, syniadau a dadleuon byw ac agored.

Rydym yn ymwrthod a’r traddodiad hir o barcio adroddiadau dwys i gasglu llwch a’u anwybyddu.

Mae dyfodol Cymru a ffawd ei phobol yn rhy bwysig.

Hoffwn eich gwahodd i fod yn rhan o’r ymdrech.
