A clear plan?

The predecessor of the Tory party, the Conservatives were founded in 1834 and, based on the number of years it has been the party of government in the United Kingdom, is often considered the most successful political party in the world. In 1912, the Conservatives merged with the Liberal Unionist Party to give the current party its name. But, after 14 years in power, the parties Brexit policy and a lurch to the right, is the 2024 general election going to see the beginning of the end for this unionist party of the British Empire

Employment and Pensions

  • Take 2p off employee National Insurance by April 2027
  • Abolish National Insurance by 2029
  • Maintain the triple lock on the state pension


Business and Industry

  • Port Talbot steel making facilities are to receive £80 million from the Westminster government to be used in the transition to the electric arc furnace and bringing Port Talbot into the proposed Celtic Freeport


Levelling Up and Wales

  • Extend the UK Shared Prosperity Fund until 2027 and deliver £570 million a year to communities across Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales
  • Maintain the Community Ownership Fund until 2027, allowing communities in Wales to access funding to save local assets
  • Continue the Multi-Sport Grassroots Facilities Programme through the next parliament so that sports facilities can access vital investment


Parenting and Childcare

  • 30 hours of free childcare each week for eligible parents from the child's ninth month to the start of school
  • Keep Child Benefit for families up to a combined parental income of £120,000


Climate Change and the Environment

  • Deliver net zero by 2050
  • Prevent solar farms clustering in a single area of the UK
  • The Conservatives will continue the moratorium on deep sea mining and ratify the Global Oceans Treaty before the end of 2029
  • Take away red tape so that more trees can be planted across the UK
  • Support floating offshore wind as part of the Celtic Freeport plans
  • Conservatives will deliver a mega-nuclear power station at Wylfa and support Wales’ ability to host SMRs (small nuclear reactors)


Brexit

  • Conservatives will continue to deliver their Brexit to the UK through, signing trade deals and attracting foreign investment into infrastructure
  • Protect Westminster’s internal market and prevent further devolution of economic powers to Scotland, Northern Ireland and Wales


Housing

  • Build 1.6 million more homes each year across the UK
  • Abolish Stamp Duty for homes up to £425,000 for first time buyers


Young People

  • Introduce mandatory National Service for all 18 year olds


Defence

  • Increase defence spending to to 2.5% of GDP by 2030 and go beyond the UK’s commitment to its NATO contribution


Policing

  • Introduce a new police officer in every community across Wales
  • Improve data sharing between the Senedd and the UK government, to ensure that the Welsh government is held to account by ministers in London


Immigration and Asylum

  • Remove illegal immigrants to Rwanda at a cost of more than £150,0001 per person
  • Rewrite the UK’s asylum laws and the UK-international asylum treaties


NHS and Healthcare

  • The Conservatives will promote the option of private healthcare for people in Wales and ensure that ministers in Westminster have powers to veto Welsh government decisions in Wales’ healthcare system. This will allow a Conservative government in Westminster to intervene and reduce NHS waiting lists in Wales
  • Introduce Community Diagnostic Centres


Society and Communities

  • Protect female-only spaces and sports by making it clear in law that sex means biological sex
  • Secure a £250 million Invest in Women Fund to support British female entrepreneurs
  • The Conservatives are committed to supporting the Welsh language and backing Welsh broadcasting and media
  • Conservatives will legislate to apply the Trade Union Act 2016 across Wales


Infrastructure, Utilities and Transport

  • Electrify the North Wales Main Line railway with a £1bn investment and, deliver new stations along the South Wales Main Line
  • Conservatives are committed to match funding the Welsh government in respect of building the M4 relief road, widening the A55 and the A438 around Wrexham and develop a plan for a Chepstow bypass and a Pant-Llanymynch bypass and build a third Menai crossing
  • Conservatives will overrule the Senedd’s decision to impose 20 mph zones on the people of Wales by extending its Backing Drivers’ Bill to cover Wales
  • Use fines on failing water companies to invest in river restoration projects


Food, Farming and Fishing

  • Increase UK-wide farm budget by £1bn before the end of 2029, ring fencing an amount to Welsh farmers which will increase in line with inflation
  • Bring in a £20 million UK Farming Innovation Fund
  • Fast-track farm building of infrastructure, such as glasshouses, slurry, grain stores, business use reservoirs and new vertical farming projects
  • Introduce a five-year visa tapered scheme - the Seasonal Agricultural Worker Scheme - to move agriculture away from its reliance on migrant labour towards British labourers
  • Continue to stand up for farmers in trade negotiations and require the Welsh government to provide annual reports on how ringfenced agricultural funding from Westminster is spent
  • Replicate the £100 million UK Seafood Fund to continue support for fishing around the coast of Britain - the fund will be used for harbour and fish market upgrades and, supply new equipment and technology for fish processing
  • All food products sold in Wales must comply with UK standards
